The earliest and perhaps the oldest material that is used in strapping is steel, which can offer a very high tensile strength. In packaging where it is important to make use of heavy duty holding as well is the high tensile strength of steel, then steel strapping bands are used. Such steel bands or steel straps comes in various is length and width. Steel strapping is used in many industrial applications. Examples are holding together wires, steel bars, steel sheets, and even large paper rolls.
It is important material used in strapping, otherwise known as zunchadora or flejadora, is lightweight and of good tensile strength, and the polypropylene strap is the ideal choice. Polypropylene straps are available in different selections of widths and thicknesses as well as different copolymers types. Although polypropylene straps can give you a much better tolerance of elongation, with prolonged stress, it may be irrecoverable. What may come as a surprise to most users of polypropylene strapping is that the amount of tension that is applied will be reduced by almost half the original value after one hour. The decline in strap tension is also more pronounced at higher temperatures. This may not be a problem when the products for strapping retains some amount of storage energy that may compensate for the losing of tension of the polypropylene strap. However, if we use polypropylene straps for hard or solid articles is like bars and concrete items, the loosening of the tension as a result of elongation may be unacceptable.
One other disadvantage of polypropylene strapping is that it is sensitive to degradation as a result of prolonged exposure to ultraviolet radiation. Degradation occurs rapidly when exports to the elements. However, ultraviolet degradation can be lessened if a UV inhibitor is specified.
Another type of strapping material is make of polyester. When plastic strapping materials are compared, polyester and nylon are among the strongest available. They may even be a feasible alternative for heavy duty strapping in some industries where traditionally, steel strapping is used. When polyester strapping is utilised on hard or solid items, it can effectively retain its tension for long periods of time. It also has superior properties in recovery and as a result, much better impact absorption without the risk of breaking the strap.
