The major thing that works for Gujarat is that is focuses on primary education through schools. In Vadodara and including the other places, the state has over 32,700 panchayat and grant-aid primary schools. The biggest benefit of this is that it becomes easy for people to provide basic education to their children. For families that cannot afford even two square meals a day, education is a luxury. But if it is being provided free of cost, even they can dream to give their child a secure future. This dream has been converted into reality with the help of these panchayat schools. Now instead of sending a 8 year old to work in the fields with his father, the family can think about educating him. This will not only secure the future of the child by opening up better job prospects for him, but it shall also educate the family in terms of how important literacy is and what significance it holds in the life of an individual in today’s world.
Apart from concentrating on primary and secondary education, the state has also taken special measures to ensure that the level of higher and technical education is uplifted. Universities and schools in Baroda including the rest of the state have risen to 45 in 2011 as compared to the paltry number of 11 in 2001. Just as the number of students applying for technical and degree courses has risen, the government has also aptly responded to the need by increasing the number of seats in degree and diploma engineering. This significant measure taken by the government shall ensure that more people opt for technical courses because they know the means of fulfilling their dreams – a sound education system is in place.
Looking at the whole picture from an objective point of view, one can say that unless and until the education sector is developed, no state can expect betterment and advancement in its condition. After all, how can one expect the youth of the state to be matured and understanding individuals they fail to give them the right foundation for it – a stable platform of education? Education alone can take a nation forward. Gujarat took the pains of investing in its education sector and today it is reaping the sweet fruits of that labor.
