Chinese mining agencies and industry groups have suggested that the country's securities regulator set up a mining board to facilitate stock market listings by small mining companies, an industry official said on Thursday.

'Many suggestions, both verbally and on paper, have been made to the China Securities Regulatory Commission,' Meng Xianlai, director-general of the China Geological Survey Bureau, told reporters on the sidelines of a conference in Shanghai.

He also suggested that the CSRC lower its minimum required capitalisation for listing in the case of smaller mining companies.

'Under a planned economy, mining companies can easily get investment from the government, but now they must get investment from other sources in a market-oriented economy,' he said.
