Hundreds of angry Queensland farmers have converged on Brisbane to demand the dangers of mining agricultural land be put on the state election agenda.

Busloads of farmers from across the state, including some who travelled hundreds of kilometres, took their fight against coal and coal seam gas miners to the key inner Brisbane seat of Ashgrove on Monday.

They fear the industry will poison underground water and destroy the farmland.

The farmers marched on the Ashgrove offices of Labor incumbent Kate Jones and her rival, Liberal National Party (LNP) Leader

Campbell Newman, neither of whom were there.

Throwing their hats down in the bushman's gesture to show they're up for a fight, the farmers chanted 'lock the gate' and other anti-mining slogans outside both offices.

Neither Labor nor LNP staff met the farmers. The LNP office workers locked their doors.

Farmer Lise Leatherbarrow, of Kerry in the Scenic Rim district, said farmers wanted city folk to listen to their concerns.

'Vote against the major parties, I say,' Ms Leatherbarrow told AAP.

Coal seam gas was 'the most important issue facing this state, and they don't want to talk about it', she said.

Katter's Australian Party and the Queensland Greens have called for a 12-month moratorium on CSG and extensive research into its impact on water and soil.

Members of the two minor parties joined farmers in Brisbane for a food security forum.

Radio king Alan Jones opened the forum by saying the leaders of both major parties had declined to attend.

'We are talking about the destruction of prime agricultural land,' Mr Jones told the forum.

'The potential contamination and exhaustion of water supplies.

'If that is not an issue at the Queensland election then we are big trouble.'

Mr Jones said it cost farmers a lot to take a day off to protest, but it had to be done because Premier Anna Bligh and Mr Newman were ignoring them.
