Sea salt region

The northern sea salt zone is the principal sea salt production zone. The major production enterprises are the Yingkou and Fuzhouwan Saltworks in Liaoning, the Tanggu Saltworks in Tianjin, the Jiangsu Salt Industry Company in Jiangsu, the Yangkou Saltworks in Shandong, the Nanbao Saltworks in Hebei, etc.

The major production enterprises in the southern sea salt zone include the Putian Saltworks in Fujian, the Dianbai Saltworks in Guangdong, the Yinggehai Saltworks in Hainan, and the Putai, Chiku, Peimen and Tainan Saltworks in Taiwan. The economic indices of the sea salt region are given in Table 4.8.7.

￠ù In the southern sea salt zone, Taiwan Province is not included. Taiwan Province produced 270,500 tons of salt.

In 1997 there were 21 key sea salt production enterprises in China. Among them 3 saltworks had a production scale exceeding one million t/a (crude salt, similarly hereinafter) each. They are the Nanbao Saltworks of Hebei, which had a production capacity of 1,880,000 t/a and an output of 1,581,900 tons; the Tanggu Saltworks of Tianjin, which had a production capacity of 1,174,300 t/a and an output of 1,351,700 tons; and the Jiangsu Salt Industry Company of Jiangsu Province, which had a production capacity of 3,684,100 t/a and produced 3,694,800 tons. The number of sea salt enterprises each with a production scale in the range of 500,000~1,000,000 t/a of crude salt amounted to 3, namely, the Yingkou Saltworks of Liaoning with a capacity of 800,000 t/a and an output of 720,000 tons, the Hangu Saltworks of Tianjin with a capacity of 900,000 t/a and an output of 875,000 tons, and the Huanghua Saltworks of Hebei with a production capacity of 829,000 t/a and an output of 524,000 tons.
