People who combat piracy world ask why there are so many people buy pirated things though they don’t have high quality and safety assurance. The reasons are as follows:

First, it is too expensive to buy genuine things, especially for students. The price of pirated books is half of that of genuine books, sometimes even less than half and the content are almost same. So, students would like to buy pirated books which could save them a lot of money. Second, the management of government is slack. Though the government always says that piracy is not allowed, we can still find many merchants sell pirated things. In some big cities, such as Beijing, Shanghai, the government takes measures to manage piracy, but in some small and medium sized cities you can hardly find any measures. Losing choose our university as an example, every night and many students buy books there, but the urban-management officers never confiscated their goods. Third, there are mercenary merchants. AS pirated goods can make profits, merchants could like to sell those things in their stores which make it convenient for customers to buy pirated things.

Then, what should we do to combat piracy. I think there are several ways. First, the government should take strict measures to manage this situation. The management of government plays an important rule in dealing with there social problems, thus, we should make use of it properly. Second, we should implement self-control. It is the most useful measure as we are the people who buy pirated things. If we are willing to spend extra money buying genuine things, the pirated things would have no market and they will disappear gradually. The mercenary merchants will also stop selling pirated things, if we don’t buy them from their stores. For example, when I was in high school, I bought a English novel as it was much cheaper than the genuine novel. But when I read it, I found there were many grammatical mistakes and wrong words in it. So, after reading several pages, I threw it away because it made me very uncomfortable when I read it. Since then I had never bought any pirated books.

Combating piracy is a long process, so not only the government but also ourselves should make efforts to solve this problem.
