Drinking water or potable water is water of suitably high quality that it can be devoted or used without risk of immediate or long terms harm.
Distillation is the process for removing the dissolved materials from water. Boiling is the main process of killing biological contaminants, but some of volatile and semi-volatile organic compounds are not removed by the boiling process like- CDPH 2009. The organic components that are having their boiling point greater than the boiling point of water can be easily removed from water like- MSUE 2003, but the organic components that are having their boiling point lower than the boiling point of water vaporize with the water like- benzene and toluene (Hard to remove from water).
The Solar distillation and multistage flash (MSF) distillation are two of most common methods of distillation water treatment.
Solar Distillation Water Treatment
In solar distillation water treatment system, the water is heated by the use of solar energy. An arrangement of mirrors are used into the solar distillation water treatment system that is following the path of sun to focus the sunlight on are of water in a solar still. In solar stills, salt water is filled in tube with glass sheets as roof at an angle of 10 to 18. The tube is tightly sealed to holding frame and the joints between the still cover and the vertical walls perfectly tight. The water molecules are converted into steam by the heating of solar and leaving behind the salted at the sink. The vapor is condensed at the bottom of the glass roof of the still and drinking is collected in the collecting product.
Multi-Stage Flash Distillation Water Treatment
In multi stage flash (MSF) distillation, the supply water is heated and the pressure is lowered, so the water converts into vapor. This process composes one stage of a number of stages in series, each of which is at a lower pressure (TWT 2011).
Distilled Water Removes Minerals and Contaminants
Water Distiller is not effective for all types of chemicals, but removes soluble minerals (i.e., calcium, magnesium, and phosphorous) and precarious heavy metals like lead, arsenic, and mercury. During the boiling process some of the chemicals produce dangerous compounds. Salt, metals, and biological threats are removed during the vaporization process. Stripping of minerals will not be harmful to the human body system as stated by World Health Organization (WHO). According to WHO (2009), the human body takes huge majority of minerals from food or supplements, not from drinking water.
