Integrated Project Management (IPM) incorporates a single centralized data structure to a
current project. It connects the stakeholders (or people involved in the project) with each
other, becoming a unified decision-making machine.
IPM vs. Traditional Organization Structure
In a traditional structure, many separate data sources report to individual stakeholders through
a variety of isolated support tools. Stakeholders could be the customer/audience, business
owners, the organization as a whole, the management team or the technical staff. The result of
this approach is decentralized data points are reported to different stakeholders.
It also creates a disconnection between stake holders' interrelationships because each
stakeholder just focuses on their individual responsibility to the project. These stakeholder
responsibilities can be any of the following, if not all: when their responsibility will be executed,
what their specific objectives are, who will be doing what job, how much effort will be involved,
and how much it will cost the team.
If the Integrated Project Management (IPM) method is used, it provides a centralized data
source. It takes into account the decisions and considerations of all the people involved,
especially in the collection of relevant information. These data are usually associated with
the project's schedule, resource requirements, cost, and accomplishments. Unlike in the non-
integrated method or traditional structure, IPM allows each stakeholder to concentrate on how
their elements of responsibility will affect and are affected by the responsibilities, actions, and
interests of the other stakeholders.
Benefits of IPM
IPM is beneficial because it creates an environment for effective use of organizational
knowledge. Everyone gets to contribute to this knowledge body. Collaboration, dependency
and coordination issues between parties are also recorded and controlled.
One advantage of using Integrated Project Management is reusing knowledge between
projects. It also provides proactive improvement of processes by reviewing past or stock
process knowledge. Greater commitment is formed within the people involved in the project
as the bigger organization provides direct benefits and contact with them through the shared
process knowledge.
Integrated Project Management is a new method that upgrades project planning into a whole
new level of thinking and working as a team. Timely and consistent data are shared at multiple
levels for every person or head of each project department. With immediate feedback and
quick turnaround of decisions, IPM has been proven to be one of the best methods to use in
project management these days.
