Choosing a proper school for a high school student to attend while they are based in Boston could be a harrowing task. Not only do you have hordes of schools available in the city, but each of them also have unique traits and factors that makes it difficult for you to narrow your choices down. You could ask the Boston Guardianship service or the host family for help. However, we prefer you skim through the types of schools there are in Boston and then make an educated guess.

Consideration 1: Private or Public?

With there being both private and public schools in Boston, this would be the first demarcation you’d want to consider. No type of school is extremely good or very bad, and you may find great education places in both the public and the private domain.

However, Boston Guardianship service professionals feel private schools are more in tune with students’ needs of today and are better (albeit, expensive) choices for your high school student to attend. If budget is a concern, you could choose a good public school with discussions with the host family too.

Consideration 2: Co-education or single-sex?

Co-education schools and single-sex schools are abundant in Boston. There are huge arguments about which kind of schools are better amongst puritans with there being no proper conclusion.

If you choose a co-ed school, your high school student could be distracted by the opposite sex, but be able to build communication skills and remain unfazed by their presence. On the contrary, single-sex schools make it easier for students to excel in their craft, but their social standing and communication skills falter.

You may consult the Boston Guardianship service and the chosen host family to guide you when it comes to choosing a good school for your child.

Consideration 3: Day boarding or residential school?

Like the classification above, there is no exact right-wrong demarcation here, too. It rather depends on what works for your high school student and what doesn’t.

In a day boarding school, you’ll need host family services in addition to schooling and academics. There would be very less emphasis on games and sports in a day boarding school. The timings and schedule would be flexible too, and your child could enjoy life in Boston with schooling.

In a residential school, the entire time a student spends would be in the school campus with occasional trips to the city. Moreover, there would be emphasis on sports such as swimming and horse riding. Your child could also get to share dormitories and make new friends for life.

There are many other demarcations too for you to consider. The professionals at the Boston Guardianship service would help you choose the right school for your needs.
