Chandigarh is the capital city for two Indian States, Punjab and Haryana. The city is also a union territory of India. It is famous for its well organized structures. The name Chandigarh is taken from the famous hindu temple Chandi Mandir. The city boasts of first planned city of India. The people living in the city have a highest per capita income in the whole country which is roughly around Rs. 99,000/-.

History of the city
Chandigarh came into existence after the independence of India. Many buildings in the city have been designed by the famous architect Le Corbusier, however the whole plan of the city was prepared by the architect from USA, Albert Mayor. Later on, it was declared the capital city for two states i.e. Haryana and Punjab.

Geographic conditions
The city is situated in the foot of the mountain range of Shivalik of Himalyas. The climate is humid subtropical type and is influenced by extreme temperatures in the winter and summer seasons, i.e. in the winter season the temperature falls down to even -1 degrees while in the summers the maximum temperature ever recorded is 41 degrees. So the best season to visit this lovely natural place is somewhere from July to November and February to April.

Religious and cultural background
The city however, has a majority of Sikh Panjabis and Hindu Hariyanvis and these two communities constitute most of the population of the city, there are people from other parts of the country which makes this city a mixed culture place where almost all the religions and cultures exist side by side.

Position of the city in country
The economy of the city is mainly governed by the government sector employees since there are three governments functioning at one place. Apart from this Chandigarh houses many small scale industries and the per capital income of citizens of Chandigarh is the highest in the whole country. The Information Technology parks are also being developed in the region to boast the software industry in the area. The main industries of Chandigarh are Paper manufacturing, metals and alloys and mechanics.

The city is connected with the rest of the world with Roadways, Railways and Airways. There are many buildings designed by the eminent designer Le Corbusier and other designers which make it one of the modern designed cities. Places to visit include the famous open hand sculpture by Le Corbusier, Rock Gardens was designed by Nek Chand, Sukhna Lake is situated at the outskirts of city, Rose garden is a natural beauty within city, the Capitol, The high court, the secretariat and The Legislative Assembly are some of the buildings were designed by the famous designer Le Corbusier. The cactus garden in the city is also very famous. There are various tourist places in Chandigarh where the people like to visit in the evenings and thus enjoy the rural lifestyle of the city. There are special Punjabi and Hariyanvi Cuisines quite famous in the streets of Chandigarh and one can find a good restaurant for fulfilling his taste desires. The famous cuisine is chola-bhatura.
