We usually change Windows 7 password regularly for security reasons. But it is very annoying when you forgot Windows password at the time when you are required to do some important office work. In this article we'll present 4 simple ways to help you reset Windows 7 password no matter you can log on your computer or not.

Method 1: Reset Windows 7 Password When You Logon

If you can logon Windows 7 system using any administrator account, it's very easy for you to reset Windows 7 password. Please follow these steps:

1. Go to Control Panel and click on the User Accounts and Family Safety.

   

2. Click on the User Accounts link, then click on the link of Change your password.
3. Enter your current password and set a new Password, then click on Change password button.

Method 2: Reset Windows 7 Password from Command Prompt

Are you an administrator on the Windows 7 operating system with multiple user accounts? Have you forgotten the password to one of those accounts and you are locked out? Then, provided you can still log on using another administrative account, then you can reset the forgotten password from the command line.

1. Click on the Start button.
2. Click Run and type cmd into the box. Press Enter to open the command prompt.
3. Type net user on it and press Enter. All the user accounts will be displayed.

4. Type the following command line and press Enter to reset Windows 7 password. Replace username with your desired account and replace password with your new password.

   net user username password

Method 3: Using Other Available Administrative Account

But unlike Windows XP, the built-in Administrator account in Windows 7 is disabled or hidden by default. If you are able to log in your computer with other available administrative account, it's quite easy for you to reset forgotten Windows 7 password as follows:

1. Type lusrmgr.msc in the Start search box and hit Enter to pop up the Local Users and Groups window.
2. Expand Users folder to display all the user accounts in the Windows 7 machine.

3. Right-click the account whose password you forgot and select Set Password.

4. Click Proceed to go on your operation.
5. Type and confirm your new password and click Ok.

Method 4: Reset Windows 7 Password without Logon

If you forgot Windows 7 password and can't logon the computer using any administrator account, you need to create a Windows password reset disk and then boot your locked computer from it to reset Windows 7 password.

1. Download the self-extracting Zip file of Reset Windows Password package.
2. Uncompress the package, there is a ISO image: ResetWindowsPwd.iso. Burn it onto a blank CD/DVD or USB flash drive using any CD burning software you like.
3. Boot your locked computer from the Windows password reset disk.
4. Wait until the boot process is complete. When a window pops up with all your Windows accounts, select the Windows account whose password you want to change. Click the Reset Password button to remove the forgotten password.

Then, take out the Windows password reset disk and restart your computer. You can directly log on your computer without being asked for a password. After getting into Windows you can then change Windows 7 password to a new one using the Method 1 above.
